Fear Not

June 18, 2015

Immediately pressing “play” to any X and G track I catch, you can find this chick sitting on the edge of her seat for any releases from SLC duo, Xian and Gaszia.

The boys are always keep it progressive and contemporary, but they aren’t shy to remind you of past sounds and trends, whether its a touch of D&B, dubstep, or live instruments that immediately take you to another time and space, they two are not hesitant to mix genres, time periods, and even vibes, often times dramatically changing their whole aesthetic of a song in one swift, and extremely fluid second. This is why I will forever press play on one of their tracks, because I know it will be something completely new.

Check out this dark number ft. dark, rolling, and seductive bass:

Headless & Friendless

June 18, 2015
Post Image
We love ourselves a good bootleg- generally nostalgic AF and always released for free . . . because they have to be. Sydney-based Friendless delivers a twist on a classic party tune, Basement Jaxx’s hit, “Where’s Your Head At.”

Already an unforgiving track, Friendless does not take away from the conspicuous original, but definitely makes it more danceable, adding trippy synths- one reminding us of Claude VonStoke’s “Who’s Afraid Of Detroit?”- and some spacey jungle animal noises that we can definitely get down with.

Grab this one and party on:

Have BLAIR

June 12, 2015
Post Image

Progressing as an artist and staying fresh in the music community is tough shit- especially during a time where every other person on a MAC with an iTunes is calling themselves a DJ. *longest eye roll ever*

Lucky for us, we have artists like BLAIR who is strictly in it for the music. Proficient in both classical and digitally produced instruments, BLAIR has branched out from his collaborative project, Traveler, to focus on his solitary sound.

Seemingly gathering inspiration from his two homes, the central desert of Arizona and the coast of California, BLAIR’s sound feels like sunshine on your face, forcibly putting you in, like, the best mood ever . . . who wouldn’t want that?

BLAIR’s first release, a remix of Eryn Allen Kane’s “Have Mercy,” features a feel-good house beat embedded with homemade synths and guitar samples that are so uplifting, you may as well be in the clouds.

We look forward to seeing what this talented producer has in store for us in 2015!

Slow & Saintly

June 10, 2015
Post Image

Dimond Saints gain and solidify fans with their newest single, “Slow,” originally by Henry Green, a young house producer from the UK.

For this remix, along with all their tracks, members An-Ten-Nae and Releece fan one another’s flames by finding a balance between their signature quirks and their joint sound while messing around with an unexpected genre for the almost exclusive bass producers.

Personally placing this one under my top favorite Dimond Saints’ tracks, it carries appeal by not distinguishing itself as either a house or bass track; comfortably spanning genres, transitioning from chilled-out california house music to dramatized west coast  trap. A 50s era Hawaiian inspired guitar rift makes bouncy 4×4 waves that delicately dance around anthem-like trap adorned with trumpets and a booming bass line.

If you are familiar with both artists solo projects, their individual style is recognizable within the entirety of their releases, as well as their progression and growth as a pair. The two saints consistently exhibit what appears to be an absolutely effortless and extremely fluid collaboration that keeps their listeners wanting more. Each track a treat gifted for free by the saints, it is hard not to fall in love with their heavenly production.

Grab one of our favorites for the summer!

Uncover The TRUTH

May 29, 2015
Post Image

With an appropriately simple, yet profoundly dark and bass heavy perspective towards low-end music, New Zealand dubstep duo, Truth, has spent the better part of a decade situating and solidifying a comfortable position for themselves atop bass music’s food chain. As the two continue to cut a clear pathway through the international music scene, Truth carries with them the exceptional skill of thunderous sound production, impeccable DJing abilities, and an insightful philosophy on the nature of “truth.”

All that said, one of the things that keeps us hooked on Truth’s infectious and understated style is their mini-mix series, the “Truth Chronicles,” which provides dubstep fans with free, deep bass mixes packed with exclusive tracks that showcase only the freshest and highest quality music.

After taking a 6 month hiatus from the mix series, the duo decided to surprise fans with the series’ next installment: “Truth Chronicles Vol. 25,” and it was definitely worth the wait. Laced with huge dubplates and a gigantic, versatile tracklist that fuses the freshest elements of ominous, twisted dubstep and seductively deep, bass vibes, Truth’s “Chronicles Vol. 25″ may be one of their most powerful mixes to date.

Blake, Billy, & Benny

May 20, 2015
Post Image

The abrupt rise of James Blake in the indie community started with his debut self-titled released in 2011. As someone who consistently tried to balance my love for both live and digitally produced music, Blake was the perfect amalgamation of the two. Producers specializing in both house and bass music quickly discovered how perfectly Blake’s dreamy and almost melancholy voice was embedded into 4×4 and growling bass lines and he was quickly picked up as favorite male to sample.

BB’s Benny Rich, AKA Mr. Rich, and Billy Kenny are known for their big bass sound in the UK, much like the Dirtybird sound we like to get down with over here in CA. Creating a contrast that surprisingly works, the two producers surround the lyrically perspicuous track, “Limit To Your Love” with bright high-hats and booming bass that feeds the original with a sound that is unapologetic.

McFunk

May 15, 2015
Post Image

This week’s throwback is DEFUNK’s take on the mid-sixties classic, “San Francisco,” by Scott McKenzie.

McKenzie’s one-hit-wonder is pretty mellow, and what we like about the edit is how DEFUNK doesn’t completely take over the original with his bold sound. The funk-master allows it to play out, no edit necessary, before waves of glitch-funk, big bass, and an all-around good time.

Put some flowers in your hair or in your beard, and download the track below:

Get Activated With Trevor Kelly

May 12, 2015
Post Image

The world of west coast bass music seems to be overflowing with a pack of talented artists who have been crushing the NorCal scene recently. Among some of the best in the bunch are artists like G Jones, Bleep Bloop, Shlump and Trevor Kelly. Born and raised in Southern California, Trevor Kelly has transplanted himself further up the coast, making big waves ever since with over half a decade of experience in innovative, deep, future bass and 808 centered hip-hop productions.

To add to his bass resume, Trevor Kelly and fellow NorCal bass producer, Treemeista, just launched a new record label, ShadowTrix Music. To christen the label, Kelly recently released his 18-track LP, Activated. Activated is a display of Trevor’s most recent style: a future bass and 808 fusion that has the ability to deliver heavy, edgy, sexy bass grooves under a multitude of styles and sounds.

Luminous Shining

The sun will be shining down on you regardless of your surrounding environment with Nico Luminous’ remix of the classic feel-good reggae track, “Sun Is Shining” by Bob Marley.

The Bay Area bass producer smacks the living crap out of the originally melodic and mellow tune by incorporating big bass lines and glitchy synth-work, making this rework perfect for us West Coast bass folk.
