Massive Grime Remix From Doshy, Bleep Bloop & The OriGinALz

February 17, 2015
Post Image

Although they’re not household names yet, Doshy, Bleep Bloop and The OriGinALz are some of the most forward thinking and hard-hitting producers in today’s low-end, future bass game. With diverse backgrounds in genres spanning from hip hop and dubstep to orchestral and world music, these producers are spearheading the weird and wonderful future movement.

With extremely solid and distinguished styles of their own, Doshy, Bleep Bloop and The OriGinALz collided creative forces to deliver an epic remix of English Grime MC, Wiley’s and Oakland rapper God’s Gift’s track, “And Again.” With a chirpy bassy flare, this rendition of “And Again” boasts an extremely colorful and raw sound that was made to slay dancefloors in an entirely innovative, yet accessible way.

Yahtzel Yahtzee!

February 13, 2015
Post Image
Belonging to a new wave of young electronic artists, Max Armata AKA Yahtzel is an Australian producer/DJ that offers an extremely fun and bright selection of future tunes ranging in both bass and house music.

Upon first listen, Yahtzel’s sound appears ever-fluxing: house, bass, house, bass, more bass . . . but as you listen, his work is very cohesive and actually, quite consistent. The dude messes in everything from tropical house and disco to hard-hitting trap, a sound the kids are coining as the “Australian Sound.” Yahtzel has been acknowledged as one of the artists truly representing the “Australian Sound” by one of the genre’s greatest pioneers, Flume. “Australia Sound” is, if anything, feel-good. The genre focuses on beauty and drama, seemingly made for anyone who is down with aesthetic electronic music.

Come see Yahtzel play in Santa Barbara as he makes his way along the coast during his North American tour, Sunday, February 15th at SoHo and RSVP for FREE entry here (18+ only $7).[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/139457134″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /][soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/150326144″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

GTFO

New to the scene, we have 15 y/o producer from Livermore, LIMARÜ. Christening his SoundCloud with his first release, a remix of Hati’s “GTFO,” you quickly realize the kid is not fooling around.

Laughing, but completely agreeing with the random comments throughout the track, highlighting some favorites: “supreme extra guac” and “excuse me, what is going on”- but really, how does this track get so wonderfully nasty?!?

As with all banging’ tracks flirting with a 2 minute mark, we wish it was longer- luckily, it knocks hard enough to happily accept the short length.

LOL 2 the Super Bowl, period. The only tolerable 2 minutes was Missy Elliot being her usual bad bitch self on stage.

The new divas bring on tears of sadness and cringe worthy performances. As so, we are very pleased with KRNE’s remix to commemorate one the greatest.

The Oakland-based producer enhances the original, bringing forward the elements that make “Get Ur Freak On,” such a unique track, and doing so without adding or taking away to much from the originally produced Timberland tune. KRNE makes the tune more dramatic: bigger bass, bigger bounce, bigger sound all around. We are in love with this trap-tastic take on an early Y2K classic, and we are sure Queen Elliot would be too.

Music is Love – Podcast E008 – feat. X&G

February 5, 2015

Taking the same turn, but at different times, two California producers independently head to Salt Lake City as they begin to come into their own as artists.

After linking up through their Salt Lake City based label, Damn Son!, the two began collaborating together, finding common ground in the fact that they both offered a unique sound to the label.

Christian Williams AKA Xian, has truly developed as an artist these past few years, beginning his career dabbling in hard-hitting DnB, now to a more chilled-out, progressive sound, mentioning that, “there’s so much new daly content online, it’s hard not to hear something fresh that turns your head [. . .] These days I just want to make weird stuff.”

Aaron Spasiano, or Gaszia, began seriously producing back in 2012. Meeting Xian was a positive turning point for him as a producer, stating, “My workflow has evolved drastically over the last couple years since meeting Xian. He showed me an entirely different approach to music creating.”

Though each artist have their individual project, the two have been working almost exclusively together as of late, recently releasing an album as duo, “X&G.” Xian describes the release as “a compilation of ideas, experimental content and styles we’ve messed around with since we started making music together.” The “[m]ajority of songs were made in one sitting, then put on the back burner for the remainder of the year [. . . ] We decided on some songs from the past year or so and just polished what we had” adds Gaszia.

To showcase the dynamic duo’s workflow, we asked the boys to shoot us an exclusive mixtape, and damn, were we stoked on what we heard. The enigmatic mix not only features some outstanding originals, but it is almost a 50/50 split of both house and bass music, seamlessly mixed in a way, that you are straight-up confused as how they went from one track to the next until you are fully in it.

Gaszia’s elaborate and sacred sound, paired with Xian’s futuristic flair harmonize perfectly with each other. We look forward to the projected new tracks and shows the two have planned for 2015.

Grab their exclusive mix for Music is Love and be ready to fall in love over and over again:

Heavy hitters in house land from the English Midland, Cause & Affect, join up with Dutch DJ and producer, Preditah for their grimey  release, “Strange Signal.”

The duos dynamic and low frequency UK jackin’ house blended with Preditah’s “Dutch hardcore” D&B style, leaves a satisfying womp in your ear, curing any itch you have for bass-forward house.

A blend of techno, breaks, and dub, “Strange Signal” is an in-your-face tune that’s hard to ignore. Released on Monki and Friends, check out the collab and grab it for freesies:

Sacred Archive

January 31, 2015
Post Image

California-based producer, Sacred Sciences, releases a 3-part EP, or story, rather, entitled “Archive.”

The differences in the 3 tracks give off the impression that they are sustainable in themselves, but together, “Archive,” “Destiny,” and “WTFU” tell a story as they progress in  complexity, intensity, and of course, bass.

The first track, “Archive,” carries drawn out synths, giving it the feeling of a muscial score- this number is a dreamy and inspirational electronic track. Next, “Destiny,” a glitchy track, showcasing more energy than the first, but balanced by a softness in the instruments utilized. The EP ends with “WTFU,” the most assertive of the three and my personal favorite of the lot. The post-dub track identifies on the trap side of things- “WTFU” is 100% a head-nodder, showcasing sassy snares and hi-hats, it will probably make you feel a lot more badass than you really are . . . like it did for me.

Free, as always:

TBT: Know Lipsett

January 29, 2015
Post Image

This TBT is devoted to garage and it’s abrupt and short-lived year in the spotlight.

Early in 2012, Disclosure was my first ear to garage and I become obsessed with the danceable quality, distinct bass lines and unique rhythms. The hunt for more garage-stylized artists was real, and the only place I could find them was overseas.

Coming across Ireland’s Lipsett mid 2012, his track “Know This” still stands out in my mind as one of the first tracks instigating the long line of producers utilizing 90s/early ’00 R&B samples. Sampling Cassie’s, “Must Be Love,” Lipsett’s transforms the tune into a complex weave of progressive and unexpected loopholes.

Goin' Up

An anthem for the working class, Drake’s “Tuesday” track has not only infiltrated our mainstream airwaves 7/7 days of the week in the States, but it’s seeped its way across seas to those that “got no time to party on the weekend.”

Over in France, vocalist Echo links up with Parisian pal and producer, Akeda for a ladylike cover. Kinda choosay, I find the original a bit whiney- I don’t want to party with that dude any day of the week. On the other hand, I’d totally get down with Echo- I’ll “bring the juice, we ‘bout to get lit,” girl. The chicks cool and effortless vocals with Akeda’s chilled-out lovesauce trap make for an extremely well-balanced cover.
