Electric Mantis’ remix of “Native Son” originally by Gramatik is absolute fire. No wonder the Portland producer is nearly up to 100,000 plays in less than 5 days . . . granted 1,000 of those may be from us alone.

Wyatt AKA Electric Mantis completely transforms the original which emits a bluesy soul sound and vibe. Can we say it even though it’s, like, the great Gramatik? Fuck it, yes, we like this remix better than the original, and now a fairy is going to die somewhere. The Mantis man does little to maintain the bluesy sound that defines the original by brightening Gramatiks focused melody with dreamy flute samples and pops of electronic percussion that clean up the original, eradicating the somewhat somber and serious mood a combination of Raekwon and Orlando Napier’s vocals and Gramatik’s production undeniably give off. Mantis concentrates on the breakdown of bass, utilizing spacey, trap future bass which draws focus to the vocals in a huge way.
