No Phase: Phazz

December 3, 2013
Post Image

Remember how cool it was to listen to the sexy sounds of R&B… yeah, like over a decade ago? Phazz takes us back to that feeling by re-vamping mainstream sound and giving it an exclusive, underground feel. Putting that cool quality back into R&B by rendering the union between it and, dare I say, EDM, our French amigo has been gaining some recognition in the states this past year as the dude comes through with some serious tunes.

Part of the Soulection crew, his tracks are soulful to say the least. Phazz has a sound for whatever mood.

Phazz hit hard this sumer with his remix of Ryan Leslie’s “Addiction”. Sexy guitar rifts transition to some sort of club trap, dubstep, hip-hop, R&B cocktail that will leave your head in the clouds.

Check out Phazz’s remix of “Got It Fine”-  a remix of from Whitney Houston’s “Fine” and hip-hop duo Mobb Deeps “Got It Twisted”:  toe-curling sexy. Phazz is constantly messing with vocal pitch, this one has a true future R&B feel- clean, spacey, and with an easy bass line.

Happy Thanksgiving from Music is Love!

Giving thanks began early for us as beloved  San Francisco DJ duo, Sex Pixels released a free 2 hour set yesterday- just in time for holiday traveling!

In tune with their eclectic style, expect everything from West Coast future bass to trap to even an original Daft Punk vs Claude Von Stroke mash-up. So many good tracks for your greasy little turkey fingers to get their hands on :p

Get Lucky All Year

November 27, 2013
Post Image

We credit Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories as one of our top albums of the year. Undoubtedly everyone and their mom was grooving to the funky sounds of “Get Lucky” all summer long and boy, we LOVE Daft Punk remixes.

Lucky for us, Bay Area DJ and producer An-ten-nae put out an amazing remix of the tune of the summer sampling Daughter’s beautiful cover. In my opinion, the use of female vocals over Pharrell, change the content of the song. The cover carries more emotion than the original and it’s tempo is significantly slowed down- perfect to listen to during the winter.

Fall: In Love With Russ Liquid

November 20, 2013
Post Image

The East Bay delivers once again, kids. Residing in Oakland, composer turned producer / ” future-vintage groove-blasting maestro”, Russ Liquid, debuted his 8 track Promises EP and we love it.

As you listen through all 8 tracks, it is evident that Russ not only seeks to generate a pleasing auditory aesthetic, because as in doing so, he evokes a full sensory experience created by tripped out bass laced with live instruments.

Tracks infused with melodic live instruments and vocals fluidly transition into creepy, spaced out trip-hop tracks void of vocals- much reminiscent of Oakland producer, Thriftworks.

In previous interviews, Russ mentions his music is an offering…you can tell him how grateful you are for his gift this FRIDAY at EOS Lounge, Santa Barbara <3

“Name Your Price” for his full EP

UK Kids

November 20, 2013
Post Image

DrDr is comprised of Joe Woods, Chris Campbell, Donna Cursons and Jack Laws.  Yes, there are 4 masters behind those catchy UKG, post-dubstep tunes we’ve been shamelessly dancing along to.

I did a little research to find out how the magic works between 4 people performing as a band, but putting out UK garage. Joe and Chris work separately to come up with ideas for tracks, they then meet up to ‘DrDr’ their ideas together. Donna adds some sultry chick vocals and BAM! Bass heavy dance music.

Though their “live” element is relatively new, the four have come up with ways to keep their fans entertained. During live sets they throw Jack Laws on the drums while the boys play with keyboards, sample pads and their laptops- Donna adds that vixen vocal quality everyone enjoys- especially live.

With a sound this danceable and a live act, DrDr will have no problem bridging indie and dance kids alike.

House on a Hump Day

Leed’s own Billy Kenny puts out some heavy sound- whether in his originals or his wonderfully crafted mixes. Well recognized over seas, Billy ‘s track “Funque” brings a hint of dark booty bass, reminiscent of  West Coast’s bass influenced house scene.

Music is Love – Podcast E005 – feat Anthony Ellect

November 1, 2013
Post Image

The sweet sounds of Anthony Ellect’s “Look” immediately grasped our attention earlier this year. As a budding new artist, we wanted him to make a mix for us and…Voila!

For an hour, Anthony weaves in between a James Blake vibe to smooth R&B vocals over chilled out bass lines. He occasionally adds a little Kastle-esqe flair and some funk. The end is spacey and sexy, finishing off with an original track he put out about a year ago, “Debt”.

Pretty Bird

October 24, 2013
Post Image

One of our personal favorites and DirtyBird’s leading lady, J.Phlip, eased us into the morning with some tunes as smooth as a kitten’s face

Yes, I’ve already played it over 3 times- I really dig it. The beginning is minimal and quite ambient, progressing to a chilled-out-bedroom-lounging vibe.

Expect everything from lovely ladyvocals to straight classical.

Wee Wee

Chris Malinchak is huge on those summer vibes, but guess what? It ain’t summer anymore- so let’s cut the sunshine fluff and go one deeper with Shiba San.

Originally rooted in hip-hop, Frenchboy Shiba San beefs up the original disco-like groove by slapping on some big bass and quality synths giving the track a lil’ more booty. Keep an eye out for Shiba San- especially if you are down with that Dirtybird feel.
