NARCOS

A friendly reminder- a PSA if you will, to allow yourself to delve into “Narcos,” the seductive new TV show based around the unbelievable story of Columbian drug lord, Pablo Escobar, and his rise to control over all of Columbia.

The original track, made exclusively for the show’s soundtrack, it based off of a style called narcocorrido, introduced into the Latin community in the early 1900s as a type of dance-folk music focused around the reality of a drug smuggler’s world. Brought to you by Cookin Soul, a Spanish DJ/production duo, our version of course has some sort of electronic influence. Extremely chill trap snares and high-hats pairs perfectly with that Latin inspired melody that comprises the original.s

If the sounds doesn’t entice you perhaps the lyrics will, translated to English below, where you can grab a download for free too!

I am the fire that burns your skin,
I am the water that kills your thirst.
Of the castle, I am the tower,
The sword that guards the treasure.
You, the air that I breathe,
And the light of the moon on the sea.
The the throat the longs to be choked
That I’m afraid I’ll drown in love.
And which desires are you going to give me.
Just to look is treasure enough,
It will be yours, it will be yours.

SF & the South

Mysterious and immediately entrapping, all the while mesmerizing and engaging, there is something very special about this release that meshes two distinct soundscapes separated by states.

“SIGL” is a collaboration between Atlanta artists, Michael Ronco and Tommy Ross AKA ATLiens, and San Francisco-based Woolymammoth. Elements and inspiration from both locals are evident in this short, but big, track. Roots in Southern crunk and hip-hop meet west coast bass and trap. The story captured inside “SIGL” is deep, dark, and magical.

Gooey Goodness

When is your favorite time to get gooey? Call me a traditionalist, but I like getting gooey in the mornings and at night! Regardless of when ya feelin’ for it, we can all feel some time of gooey way when listening to Glass Animals sweet sounding sex sauce tune.

Granted the track already sounds like it would walking in an enchanted forest with elves and fairies dancing around flowers, but Arkansas producer, Psychedetribe, adds a little more magic with gentle synths and a stellar sitar rift that will take you for a dance among the stars.

Let’s get gooey:

Do you ever listen to a track that is so good, you literally start smiling or laughing mid-tune? Trust us, it’s totally normal for music to make you look like mildly crazy in public, especially with headphones in- lol’ing and widely smiling as you walk down the street. So what’s to a production group literally called SMLE? You guessed it, that ear to ear shit.

Choosing to remain anonymous as producers to probably attempt to maintain some normality in their “regular” lives, SMLE didn’t just random pop-in to the scene, whomever is involved has been in the scene and knows wtf is up. Playing on the popularity of chill electronica and future bass with a melodic twist, SMLE certainly knows how to refresh tracks for the better, like this remix of Alicia Key’s, “You Don’t Know My Name”.

Smile, though, it looks so cute on you!

Ginuwine Funk

Bright, wavy, and groovy, we funking love Defunk’s production, especially when he gets down on some of our favorite older tunes!

Funk is literally the heart and soul of so many genres of music- take the original version of “Pony,” it was funky as fuck, listen to it. There is an air of coolness and ease with funk, it’s extremely well-balanced and easy to listen to, leaving a very pleasant taste in your mouth and satisfying tinge in your bod.

Has anyone else noticed the serious resurgence of “Pony” remixes hitting the interwebs this past year, not even just “Pony,” Ginuwine tracks alone? Not to sure as to why producers and DJs latch on too trending 90s/early 00 tracks like leeches, but that seems to be a consistent path for a lot of artists, creating a low-key competition among themselves as none of us want to listen, let alone download, 10 versions of the same track. Don’t get me wrong, ya’ll, “Pony” is a great track to resurge and lucky for Defunk, he’s a top pick for this edit, if not numero uno.

Jump on it:

Stolen Streams

The only plus about SoundCloud’s obnoxious steam of reposts from the artists you actually want to follow, are reposts of new artists otherwise left to be found randomly, late, or never. Granted it is annoying to have a full steam of just reposted tracks from an artist you are legitimately trying to keep up with, but there definitely is reposted goodness for you to come across . . . like Stolensnares, an artist that appears to be new to either producing or just new to social media, releasing frequently within the passed month he has assumed his SoundCloud domain.

Stolensnares remix of SteLouis’ track “Brave” featuring Ill-esha is a happy find due to a repost. His remix features clean, future bass production, mellowing out the original electro-pop jam with water-like percussion and soft, magical synths.

Check out stolensnares and keep up with all the free tracks he has been releasing!
